DisplayLink Ships 4 Millionth Chip And Announces Downloads Of 3 Hundred Thousandth App From The Apple Appstore For Its IPad Extended Display Solution For PC’s
PALO ALTO, Calif., August 22, 2011 – DisplayLink® today celebrated the milestone of shipping its 4 millionth chip, just 10 months after announcing it had crossed the threshold of delivering 3 million USB virtual graphics chips.
DisplayLink also announced more than 3 hundred thousand downloads of its Apple iPad® app. The app turns the iPad into an extended monitor for a Windows PC, linking without cables to a standard WiFi router.
“Surpassing the 4 million mark in ICs shipped demonstrates the mainstream reach of our technology with customers and end users who want to leverage multiple displays with ease and affordability,” said Dennis Crespo, DisplayLink’s executive vice president of marketing and business development.
DisplayLink integrated circuits are used in dozens of well-known, category-leading computing and communication products, including:
- Zero-client devices that enable very low-cost Windows MultiPoint Server-based networks for up to 15 users.
- USB-connected monitors from Acer, ASUS, LG, Mitsubishi, MMT and Samsung.
- Application specific monitors.
- Universal USB docking stations from HP, Kensington, Lenovo, Fujitsu-Siemens, Sony and Toshiba.
- Wired and Wireless USB graphics adapters from a wide range of vendors.
- USB projectors from InFocus, among others.
DisplayLink maintains its pace with its leadership in key growth markets. Many of its product categories are experiencing exponential growth. According to In-Stat, a high-tech market research firm, over 3.5 billion USB devices shipped in 2010. Future growth of USB will be driven largely by smart phones, and by USB 3.0 which will grow at almost 180 percent annually. USB-connected monitors are forecast by In-Stat to grow at a CAGR of 107% through 2014.
Having already planned for the growth in USB3, DisplayLink already announced and launched its DL-3000 series USB3 and USB2 capable parts with the highest integration of any USB graphics technology available today.
Apple iPad App is an Ideal Apple / Windows Combination
DisplayLink’s iPad app, now downloaded by over 3 hundred thousand users, is distinguished by its ease of use; a user simply drags an application or open window onto the iPad, which acts as an extended display.
“It’s impressive that so many iPad users have embraced the idea of using the device as a secondary extended PC monitor,” said Dennis Crespo, “The widespread adoption of this iPad app tells us first that people are comfortable using multiple displays, and second, that mixing and matching Windows and Mac devices is a natural usage model.”
The DisplayLink iPad app operates in true Windows 7 Aero mode, and is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, and Windows XP. The app has the following key features:
- Creates an interactive, secondary wireless display for your PC with the iPad
- Windows 7, Vista (32 and 64bit) and XP (32bit) compatible
- Configuration using the familiar Windows graphics display utility
- Discovers and connects the iPad screen to your PC over your wireless network quickly and reliably
- Operates seamlessly with other DisplayLink multi-monitor and dock products to create a rich, productive multi-monitor environment
DisplayLink Corp develops hardware and software solutions to enable easy connectivity between computers and displays over standard interfaces such as USB, Ethernet and wireless networks. DisplayLink technology is used in dozens of globally branded PC accessories including monitors, universal docking stations, display adapters, projectors, and zero client systems that make expansion of the desktop visual workspace possible, at significantly lower cost and energy usage than traditional solutions.
DisplayLink is ranked the fourth fastest-growing EMEA Company by Deloitte, and was awarded the CES 2011 Best of Innovation Award Honoree in the Enabling Technologies category for its Interactive Networked Graphics for SuperSpeed USB.
