USB 3.0 is an advance beyond USB 2.0 in several ways, including potentially much higher transmission rates using new cables with USB 3.0 receptacles, and the SuperSpeed protocol which establishes a direct pipeline for the video signal, in contrast to USB 2.0 which uses packet traffic between all devices.
The higher throughput speed and DisplayLink's adaptive compression software allow a PC with a standard graphics controller to run multiple high-definition monitors for image-centric applications in business, medicine and entertainment.
