Title: |
Why doesn't my computer automatically appear on the list of PCs? |
|
Symptom: |
The host PC name does not appear on the list on the iPad screen. |

Solution: |
It is worth checking that your PC and iPad can communicate, using ping. To do this: 1. Find the IP address of your iPad. This can be found under the Wifi settings on the iPad:
2. From your PC, try and ping the iPad IP address. You should see a successful response, as shown below:
If this is not the case, then the PC cannot communicate with the iPad over the network. Please check your PC and iPad are on the same network and the connection between the PC and iPad is not blocked by a system administrator. This can be the case in corporate networks or hotels etc. If the iPad can ping your PC, then there are 3 methods the DisplayLink App uses to find Windows PCs running DisplayLink iPad software. One of these mechanism must succeed for the Windows computer to appear on the list automatically. The first mechanism is Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). For this mechanism to succeed UPnP must be enabled on all the routers on the network and on the Windows host computer. This is typically enabled by default on domestic routers and on Windows, but may need to be manually enabled. The second mechanism is network broadcast. For this to succeed the iPad and the host must be on the same IP network and broadcast must be enabled on that network. In most cases this means that the first three numbers in the IP address must be the same, (eg 192.168.1.X) though larger networks may only require the first two numbers to match eg 169.254.X.X) The third mechanism is a search on the local network. This requires the App and Windows computer to be on the same class C IP network, which means that the first three numbers in the IP address must be the same. |
