DisplayLink Mac OS X Software Release Note ===================================================================== ===================================================================== DisplayLink Mac OS X Software Release: External Release Note Version: 1.0b2 Date: 29th August 2008 ===================================================================== ===================================================================== This is DisplayLink's Beta release of a driver that supports 2D acceleration on Mac OS X platforms. The DisplayLink Beta driver for Mac OS X is not final software and contains several key issues: * No 3D (OpenGL) acceleration - some features of Mac OS X applications that require hardware OpenGL acceleration, such as Keynote presentations and iPhoto slideshows, will not function properly. * Colour calibration does not work on DisplayLink enabled displays. Improvements over the DisplayLink Mac OS X Software 0.9b release include: * Improved Performance * Increased Stability A full list of known and fixed issues can be found in the "Fixed Issues" and "Known Issues" sections below. More information on how to use this software can be found in the Mac OS X User Guide found on the DisplayLink website (http://www.displaylink.com/mac). Supported Operating Systems ============================ The DisplayLink software can be installed on any Intel-based desktop or laptop Apple Mac computer running client versions of Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 or Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.4. Note that at the time of writing these were the latest available versions of Mac OS X tested against. Supported Mac platforms ========================== ***This software supports all Intel-based Macs.*** ***It does not support Power-PC based Macs.*** Language support ================= The DisplayLink software installer is localised in the following languages: - English - French - German - Dutch - Italian - Spanish - Portuguese - Polish - Hungarian - Russian - Traditional Chinese - Simplified Chinese - Japanese - Korean Supported Hardware ================== This version of software will support all current Displaylink enabled USB graphics devices. ============= Fixed Issues ============= Below is a list of all issues fixed since the DisplayLink Mac OS X Software 0.9b release - each issue is followed by an internal issue tracking number. Dock operated mirror and extend feature not working (3362). No 2D acceleration implemented in the driver (2567). DisplayLink displays may not resume after opening a closed laptop lid (2106). Unsupported monitor modes may be present when using a DisplayLink device on some monitors (2594). DisplayLink devices may not respond whilst a screensaver is active (2765). The DisplayLink software uninstaller is currently not localised (2791). Accelerated mouse movements when grabbing a window (2555). Display preferences settings may change unexpectedly (2650). Large performance drop on DisplayLink display when displaying authentication dialog (2677). DisplayLink display switches to unsupported resolution after waking from sleep (2682). Login Window may not appear when selected (2686). Post initial connection, DisplayLink displays not consistent when logged out (2687). If the DisplayLink display is primary, it may not be possible to enable mirroring (2696). Display preferences not updated when turning off mirroring (2694). Occasionally background colours are shown incorrectly on a DisplayLink display (2702). DisplayLink displays may not resume from sleep (2741). System may freeze if the user fast user switches to another account (2624). Older DisplayLink devices may not function after logging in post logging out (2777). OS stuck after fast user switching (2624). Poor performance when using Spaces (2561). Delay logging off from accounts with DisplayLink display attached (3404). DisplayLink displays may not resume after waking from sleep to authentication dialog (3400). Resolution changes may introduce tearing (3373). Rotating a DisplayLink display may induce redraw issues at certain resolutions (2676). Display settings are not remembered when logging out or changing accounts (2599). Running Parallels with DisplayLink displays may freeze the system (3118). DisplayLink Docks won't enter sleep (3183). ============= Known Issues ============= Below is a list of all known issues in the DisplayLink Mac OS X Software - each issue is followed by an internal issue tracking number. DisplayLink display performance sub optimal on Mac Pros (3372). Parallels crashes changing window modes on the DisplayLink Display (3538). VMWare Fusion crashes changing to full screen on the DisplayLink Display (3538). ** Workaround: Upgrading to the VMWare Fusion 2.0b2 release resolves this issue. Colour calibration does not work on DisplayLink displays (2374, 2606, 2373). DisplayLink Dock LEDs may get out of sync after fast user switching (3550). OS X 'Zoom' feature not redrawn correctly (3177). Mouse cursor may disappear / freeze after system resumes from sleep (3165, 3205). Mouse cursor may disappear when moving application windows between displays (3523). DisplayLink displays may not resume after reconnection (2775). Display settings are remembered when they shouldn't be (2783, 2770, 3575). No "stretched resolutions" are available on DisplayLink displays (2638). Running VMWare OSes by default prevent Mac OS X from accessing the DisplayLink Device (2268). ** Workaround: Uncheck the "Automatically Connect USB Devices" checkbox in Virtual Machine | Settings | USB before connecting the DisplayLink Device. System Preferences crashes - if open - when unplugging a DisplayLink display (2576, 2615). QuickTime movie window is not redrawn when another window is moved over it (3380). Apple Cinema displays are only supported in their native resolution (preferred mode), due to limitations in their hardware. For 20" displays this means that they work only at 1680x1050; only DisplayLink products that support up to 1680x1050 resolutions will therefore work with these displays. 23" Apple Cinema displays have a native resolution of 1920x1200 and there are currently no DisplayLink products that will support this resolution, the same is true of the 30" displays with a native resolution of 2560x1600. This is a limitation of Apple Cinema displays and is not specific to DisplayLink hardware (2560). If two displays with the same name are DisplayLink connected, the resolution list in the Menu Bar will show "Display 2, Display 3, ...". The Display Preferences will correctly show the name of the each DisplayLink connected display. (2630). If a monitor that supports EDID is swapped for a monitor that does not support EDID, the resolution list may not get refreshed (2692). Older monitors with EDIDs that are out of spec may not respond correctly (2558). OpenGL\Quartz\Hardware acceleration Issues (2487) ------------------------------------------------- Note: Applications that require Quartz\OpenGL\hardware acceleration support will likely exhibit problems with this version of DisplayLink software. Some problems can be avoided by making sure the DisplayLink display is not set to be the main display (the display with the menu bar). If an application refuses to launch when a DisplayLink display is present, try to disconnect all the DisplayLink displays, then launch it and then reconnect the displays. Specific issues are described below: Cover flow (Leopard) view in Finder sometimes displays corruption on a DisplayLink display set as primary (2515). DVD player moves from extended DisplayLink display back to main screen (2403). Frontrow does not playback DVDs on a DisplayLink displays in Mirror mode (2321). GoogleEarth does not always load terrains when it is on a DisplayLink extended display (2111). iMovie displays message about an incompatible graphics card when launched with a DisplayLink display connected (2107 & 2363). iPhoto causes DisplayLink screen to blank when playing a photo slideshow (2117). Keynote embedded quicktime movie won't display on extending DisplayLink display (2552). Keynote won't run if DisplayLink display is primary (2485). OpenGL screensavers will not display on a DisplayLink display, these include: -Arabesque -Shell -Spectrum -Word of the day -RSS Visualizer (2544 & 2341) PhotoBooth won't run if DisplayLink display is primary (2484). VLC player crashes when DisplayLink display is primary (2528). The zoom function in Google Earth can be jerky and unusable on a DisplayLink display (2486). Backdrops won't run on a DisplayLink display (2361). iChat windows blanks if resized with effects applied (2529). Aperture crashes when opening large images on a DisplayLink display (2641). Cannot enter full screen mode on extending DisplayLink display whilst using iChat Video Chat (2530). Cannot enter full screen mode/resize window on extending DisplayLink display with Skype video (2531). Full screen mode not possible using Parallel's Desktop on extending DisplayLink display (2619). Mosaic display style screensaver won't run on extending DisplayLink display (2668). FrontRow does not load on primary DisplayLink display (2307). Other applications that rely on 3D hardware acceleration may display warnings or may show incorrect behaviour.
